"Spock. Spock?" Spock stirred and smiled but did not open his eyes. He knew it was Jim becuse nobody said his name quite the way Jim did. McCoy would pronounce the name "Spock" as one short, explosive syllable, but Jim drew out the one vowel, ending lightly on the k. "Jim," Spock murmured, blinking his eyes open and cuddling closer. "Nobody says my name the way you do," said Kirk. "Indeed?" Spock said, gently reaching over to stroke Kirk's cheek. Spock thought of the symmetry, but did not tell him. After all, one would not want Jim to become self-conscious.
